Shivam Desai, M.D., is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specialized in diagnosing and treating hip and knee conditions. His primary area of expertise is total joint replacement surgery as well as non-operative care. He has extensive training in minimally invasive surgery focused on rapid recovery including the anterior approach to the hip as well as robotic assisted total joints. He is one of the few doctors in the country who is able to utilize robotic and AI technology into all of his primary elective total hip and total knee replacements for better patient outcomes. Dr.Desai is the only fellowship trained joint replacement surgeon in the state of Georgia who performs the muscle sparing Jiffy knee replacement. He is heavily involved with teaching medical and PA students within the region, and he regularly hosts visiting surgeons who are interested in learning muscle sparing techniques and robotics. His practice also includes general orthopaedics and fracture care.

Dr. Desai grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, but spent many of his summers visiting family in Newnan. He attended Duke University for college where he was a recipient of several academic scholarships. He then went to medical school at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston. While at MUSC, he was awarded several merit based scholarships and was selected into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society which recognizes the top 10% of medical students nationwide. He moved to Baltimore, Maryland to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Maryland Medical System which included training at the world-renowned R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital. He served as Chief Resident and won multiple first place awards at regional conferences during his final year for his research on improving joint replacement care. Dr. Desai subsequently completed a dedicated Joint Replacement fellowship in Adelaide, Australia at Flinders Medical Centre where he learned the latest advancements in robotics, computer navigation, and complex joint reconstruction from surgeons from across the world.

He has published multiple articles and presented at national meetings in order to advance the field of orthopaedics and optimize outcomes for his patients. He is an active participant in the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and International Congress for Joint Reconstruction (ICJR). Dr. Desai believes in using the latest evidence-based treatments in order to get patients back to doing what they love with or without surgery.

Dr. Desai and his wife are excited to return to Georgia and be closer to family. In their spare time, they enjoy spending time outdoors with their 2 young children.
