Dr. Michael Cushing has over 24 years of clinical experience, with a practice exclusively dedicated to the diagnosis and surgical treatment of shoulder injuries and disorders.
Michael V. Cushing, MD earned a chemistry degree from Indiana University, where he was a member of the men’s swim team and named Academic All-Big Ten Scholar Athlete in 1990 and 1991. His athletic background and fascination with anatomy led him to pursue orthopedics.

He completed medical training at the Medical College of Georgia and an orthopedic surgery residency at the Atlanta Medical Center. He furthered his expertise with a shoulder fellowship at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Georgia, focusing on shoulder surgery. Dr. Cushing is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, an invitation-only society of nearly 1400 leading orthopedic surgeons specializing in shoulder and elbow care. He is also a member of the Georgia Shoulder and Elbow Society.

Specializing in shoulder injuries, Dr. Cushing performs procedures such as arthroscopic instability repair, labral repair, rotator cuff repair, and total shoulder replacement, including the innovative reverse total shoulder replacement.

Most of these procedures are performed at their outpatient surgery center. Dr. Cushing has taught advanced arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery techniques to other orthopedic surgeons at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Chicago, Illinois. He has also given talks in Atlanta on total shoulder and reverse total shoulder replacement.

Born in Chicago and raised in Atlanta since age 14, Dr. Cushing resides in Fayetteville with his wife and they have 5 children and one grandchild. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoys boating, water sports, scuba diving, yoga, golfing and snow skiing.

Dr. Cushing is board-certified and serves on staff at Piedmont Newnan Hospital and Piedmont Fayette Hospital.
